Claas adds 295hp model to Axion 800 series

Claas has expanded its iconic Axion 800 tractor range with the addition of a new flagship model, the Axion 870 with a maximum rating of 295hp and CMATIC continuously variable transmission.

The model is now the most powerful in the Axion 800 series which currently carries seven models ranging from 205 to 295hp.

Claas group tractor product manager Dave Knowles says the Axion 870 boasts an additional 31hp of extra power compared to the Axion 850, despite having the same operational weight.

“Axion 870 is equipped with the same proven 6.7 six-cylinder FPT Tier-4 engine found in the Axion 800 series,” he says.

“However, the addition of Claas Power Management powerboost system lifts the maximum power delivered from 280hp to 295hp.

Knowles adds the electronic engine control system automatically delivers an extra 15hp of power whenever power take-off work is being performed or when the tractor’s operating speed is more than 14km/h.

“This extra power makes the Axion 870 a highly versatile work platform,” he says.

The Axion 870 has been designed to carry out heavy-duty power take-off work including mowing, baling and fast-moving field work such as light cultivation and spraying.

Where extra traction is required, Claas offers a number of ballasting options for heavy tillage applications.

“These options can take the tractor’s tare weight from just over nine tonnes to a maximum permissible weight of 15 tonnes,” Knowles says.

“The front weight block can be removed in just a few minutes to improve fuel efficiency when this extra ballast is not required.”

Although the Axion 870 comes standard with the same suspended front axle featured across the series, it can be specified with an optional Proactiv front axle suspension.

Another feature of the Axion 870 is Claas’ tried and tested CEBIS operating system which features a multifunction control lever and control terminal integrated into the right armrest.

“All of the important functions of both the tractor and any implements can be conveniently controlled using function keys in the armrest or with the CMOTION multifunction lever,” Knowles says.

The CEBIS system includes the Claas Sequence Management system, which enables easy headland management.

In addition, the Axion 870 can optionally be equipped ex-factory with the GPS Pilot steering system from Claas in combination with either the S10 or S7 terminal.

The Claas Axion 870 will be available in Australia from 2016.
