Vermeer has introduced an industry-first stump cutter in Australia which features a ride-on platform for higher speed, manoeuvrability and operator comfort.

By riding on the new SC40TX, operators can move from stump to stump faster and get the job done quicker.

In addition to the ride-on platform, Vermeer has added a range of other features to improve the stump grinder’s efficiency; including a counter-rotating track undercarriage which serves to enhance its manoeuvrability.

The tracks also offer good floatation and the ability to operate in less-than-ideal ground conditions.

Vermeer tree care/rental and landscape solutions specialist Mike Rector says the SC40TX was developed to bring innovation to the 40 to 50-hp stump cutter class.

“The machine has applications in many markets including Australia’s tree care contractors, arborists, landscape, municipality, golf courses and ground maintenance.”

The SC40TX has a hydraulic ground drive and cutter wheel, meaning there are no belts or chains to service.

A Vermeer exclusive SmartSweep control system monitors engine load and provides continuous feedback for a smooth and consistent cutter wheel sweep rate.

The cutter wheel is equipped with Vermeer’s Pow-R plate technology which helps to lessen bounce while cutting, hence increasing protection of cutter tooth pockets and reducing horsepower robbing chip recirculation.

While other stump cutters may give operators the choice of standing at a swing-out control station on the side of the machine or using a remote control, the SC40TX features two dedicated positions from which to operate the machine.

There is the traditional location on the side of the machine or a platform on the back of the machine, which is ideal for when space is tight.

At 91 cm wide, the SC40TX is designed to fit through standard gates and work in small areas.

The SC40TX has a 40-horsepower (29.8 kW) Kohler diesel engine.
