Mahindra brings improved New Age XUV500 Down Under

Indian automotive giant Mahindra has brought its New Age XUV500 W8 SUV to Australia in an attempt to crack the condensed local car market.

The seven-seat SUV appears to address many of the issues the brand had with an earlier version launched in 2012, with Mahindra boasting new styling and improved perfomance and safety.

Boasting a ‘head turning style’, the diesel-driven New Age XUV500 is packed with updated features, such as Bluetooth, foldable outside rear vision mirrors , high-tech reverse parking camera with Dynamic Assist and the new 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment and GPS navigation system.

The XUV500’s two variants, the two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models, come with a 6-speed manual transmission, and a turbocharged 2.2 litre 103 kW m-Hawk engine.

Mahindra has also taken a Cheetah-inspired approach to the XUV500’s styling, equipping it with premium new black Interior, plush leather seats, a new front grille with chrome inserts, and static bending projector headlamps, all of which “breaks the mould of the ordinary”.

Acceleration is said to be 60 km/h in 5.4 seconds.

Its off-road capabilities are hinted at by the XUV500’s victories at the 2014 Indian Rally Championship and Desert Storm.

The claimed fuel consumption of the XUV500 is a highlight, topping our native Holden’s new Captiva and the Ford Everest, with 6.7 litre/100km from its 74 litre tank, a possible point of persuasion for Mahindra.

An automatic model of the XUV500 is set to be released this May, with pricing to be confirmed later.

The visually improved Mahindra XUV500 SUV is available from 35 locations Australia wide, with prices from $29,900 driveway for the W8 two-wheel-drive and $32,900 for the four-wheel-drive model.
