Mahindra says the firm’s newest tractor has been designed to be more efficient and more powerful than previous compact models.

At the recent Elmore Field Days event, Mahindra national agriculture after sales manager Stephen Bird spoke to TradeFarmMachinery.com.au about the new tractor.

“They became available in the month of September, and we’ve got two already operating in Victoria as we speak,” Bird says.

The mForce 100P has a Perkins 100hp engine coupled with a 32×32 PowerShift transmission to give a maximum speed of 40km/h, which Bird says positions the tractor well in today’s market.

“If you look at the world market statistics, the big volumes of sales are still mostly under 150 horsepower,” he says. “It’s still running a simple, tier 4 engine, but there aren’t too many electronic controls.”

Bird says the tractor has been performing well in the US, where it has been available for four years, and in New Zealand where it has been available for three.

“We’ve been getting from both markets is that there are no major problems with it. It’s just got simple, reliable features.”

He says the tractor gets an edge over other brands due to its capacity for lifting.

“One of the main features we’ve got with this is the loading capacity — we can lift 1100kg as a safe working load, which is something we’ve got over our competitors,” Bird says.

“We did bring it in specifically for that, because we’ve been asked about 1-tonne fertiliser bags, and we’ve proven it can definitely lift them.”

Bird says the new Mahindra is a good utility for farmers looking for something to use during haymaking or feedlotting , as a general all-purpose tractor or a second tractor for someone with bigger operations.
