John Deere reveals new flagship 6R tractors

John Deere adds new top-of-the-range models to 6R tractor series

John Deere has unveiled two new flagship tractors in its 6R series. The 6230R and 6250R are both powered by six cylinder engines that produce 171kW and 186kW respectively.

According to the manufacturer, the new models have both been specifically designed to meet the needs of contractors and arable farmers.

The new tractors are also said to be very lightweight for their size, weighing in at 9.3 tonnes. This weight, combined with the maximum permissible weight of 15 tonnes also means the tractors have a 5.7-tonne payload.

The six-cylinder engine used on both the tractors is a 6.8L PowerTech PSS engine which features dual turbo chargers and advanced DPF and SCR technology. John Deere reckons that this engine technology means that it can respond very quickly to changing loads while consuming less fuel and meeting Tier 4 Final emission standards.

The upgraded AutoPowr transmission delivers maximum efficiency, with 100 per cent mechanical power available at 3.5 km/h for heavy draft operations, 11 km/h for light draft work, 22.5 km/h for heavy transport and 47.2 km/h for light transport duties.

Once running at maximum road speed, RPM automatically drops and 50 km/h is maintained at 1630 RPM and 40 km/h at 1300 RPM, which results in lower fuel consumption on the road.

The new 6R series tractors are also equipped with a pressure and flow compensated hydraulic system which delivers a powerful maximum flow of 160 Lpm at 1500 RPM.

Up to six selective control valves (SCVs) with individual pressure-relief levers have been grouped together for easier access.

The tractors also have improved lift capacities – 10.4 tonnes on the rear hitch and 5 tonnes at the front.

In addition, they have been designed to offer a high level of operator comfort and are equipped with an intelligent hydro-pneumatic suspension cab specifically designed to reduce noise and vibration.

“Better traction and up to 10 per cent more power applied to the ground are provided by the new self-levelling TLS plus triple-link suspension system on the front axle,” John Deere says.

“This automatically adjusts sensitivity and suspension rate, and synchronises with hitch sensing to compensate for power hop under heavy draft conditions.

“Less arm movement and significantly less steering effort are required by the variable ratio steering (VRS) system, which can be activated and deactivated from the tractor’s CommandCenter control console,” the company adds.

Other features of the new 6R series tractors include: easy-to-access service points for maintenance, 750-hour engine oil filter, fuel filter and engine oil intervals, and a lifetime diesel particulate filter (DPF).
