Seven models will be released in Australia early next year. Ranging from 125 to 205hp, the four Arion 600 models will come equipped with a six-cylinder DPS engine, while the three Arion 500 models will feature the four-cylinder DPS engines.

Claas Harvest Centre Group product manager Dave Knowles says the new Arion 600 and 500s are all-round rigs that have earned their reputation for performance, efficiency and comfort.

“With a rated power output ranging from 125 to 205hp, these ‘all-round’ tractors are ideal for a broad range of cropping, mowing, baling, transport and front-end loader activities,” he says.

Both the four- and six-cylinder engines comply with the latest Stage IV (Tier 4) emissions standards thanks to their cooled-exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR), diesel particulate filter (DPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) converter.

“In the 600 series, the engine idling speed automatically reduces from 800 to 650 rpm when the tractor is stationary, delivering additional fuel savings,” Knowles says.

In terms of transmission, the new Arion models have the choice of Claas’ Hexashift powershift or a custom-designed CMATIC continuously transmission. Cruise control is also available on the new Arion models as is the Smart Stop feature which makes for more convenient handling and reduces driver workload, Knowles says.

“The Hexashift unit has undergone further development for optimal performance under practical conditions and offers a wide range of new functions,” he says.

“These include a cruise control function that automatically maintains the forward speed selected by the driver.

“When the brake pedal is pressed, the Smart Stop function automatically disengages the transmission without using the clutch pedal,” Knowles adds. “This reduces the driver’s workload, especially during clutch-intensive tasks such as front-end loader work and baling.”

For the first time, the Parklock parking brake feature is made available for all Arion 500/600 models. This system is a safety mechanism to stop the tractor or its attachments from rolling away if the driver leaves his seat.

Arion 600/500 can be configured with three operating systems: the basic Claas Information System (CIS), the intermediate Claas Information System Plus (CIS+) or the advanced Claas Electronic on-Board Information System (CEBIS).

The updated CEBIS now features a new 12-inch touch-screen display and an ergonomic armrest incorporating the CMOTION multi-function control lever.

Claas also offers two different cabs for the new Arion 600/500 models, the five-pillar cab or the deluxe four-pillar cab found on the larger Axion 900 and 800 models.

The Claas Arion 600/500 series tractors will be available to order in New Zealand and Australia from early 2018.
