Machinery giant Case IH will unveil the latest Steiger CVT tractor this month at the AgQuip field days with orders beginning in October.

The new Steiger CVT technology will feature on the Case IH Quadtrac 400 and 500 as well as the Rowtrac 400, 450 and 500. The Steiger wheeled 400, 450 and 500 and the wheeled scraper 450 and 500 will also join the CVT brigade.

Alyx Selsmeyer, Australian/New Zealand Case IH High Horsepower Tractor Product Manager says the new CVT technology offers many benefits for tractor operators.

“The continuously variable transmission offers so many benefits for the tractor operator and we’re excited our Australian customers will soon have the opportunity to put it to the test,” he says.

“As well as noticing cost savings where fuel consumption is concerned, the CVT makes the tractor more user-friendly for operators of all skill levels and its features contribute to smooth operation and increased comfort for those behind the controls,” adds Selsmeyer.

CVT technology targets operator fatigue and fuel efficiency as well as providing faster acceleration ultimately increasing field and road speeds. Full power is available at low ground speeds for special applications and implements and full hydraulic flow availability at low speeds for planting and drilling which Case IH says results in increased productivity with faster cycle times and maximum fuel efficiency.

Case IH has been developing this new CVT technology for over 20 years says Selsmeyer, and is proud to be offering now to the top end of Case IH’s tractor market.

Steiger CVT features include, a kick-down feature which ensures maximum acceleration, and 40km/h is achieved at just 1640rpm, Four multi-plate wet clutch packs, mounted on the four planetary gear sets, which changes the ranges without power interruption and limits clutch wear.

Other features include an inching pedal replaces the decelerator pedal found on Steiger tractors with powershift transmission and a convenient multi-controller on the power shuttle switch, which works in parallel with the shuttle lever on the left of the steering column.

“It all adds up to a tractor designed to ensure the most efficient operation at all times, in all conditions, regardless of the task or terrain, with the capacity to reduce engine speed to the minimum required for the tractor’s workload, in order to maximise fuel efficiency,” Selsmeyer says.

The new STeiger CVT is designed specifically for applications requiring 400hp or above and will be available for Australian order in October with deliveries to start early next year.
