Case IH is Europe’s Tractor of the Year

A CASE IH model has been named Tractor of the year at EIMA 2018

The Case IH Maxxum145 Activedrive 8 has taken out this year’s prestigious Tractor of the Year (TOTY) award at EIMA 2018 in Bologna, Italy.

Judged by an international panel of 25 journalists across Europe, the Case IH Maxxum 145 Activedrive 8 nudged out the McCormick X7.690 P6-Drive and the Zetor Forterra HSX 140 to win the accolade.

The tractor is not currently part of the Case IH range in Australia.

The TOTY judges panel says the tractor impressed them on a number of levels.

“A high-tech tractor that convinces several times whether with engine power, comfortable gearbox as well as efficient fuel consumption, a lot of driving comfort and, not least, outstanding visually,” the judges say.

“In particular, is the double clutch semi powershift transmission that has positively impressed in terms of manoeuvrability and performance.

“All gear and range shift, can be done manually or automatically in an extremely fluid way –the model-range is in the right size to fit different applications.”

This is the fifth-time Case IH has won the Tractor of the Year award since its inception in 1998.

And it didn’t stop there for Case IH, as the Maxxum 145 Activedrive 8 also took out the Tractor of the Year award for Best Design.

TOTY acknowledged the machine’s style, ergonomics and practicality.

It was also announced that the TOTY Best Design award will be discontinued after this year’s EIMA Expo, with the TOTY opting for a new award to better represent tractors moving forward in Europe.

The new award will be called Sustainable Tractor of the Year.

“Sustainable TOTY will not be an award to the most “green” tractor, but it will be an awarded to innovation under the sustainability point of view,” TOTY chairman Fabio Zammaretti says.

In the other awards, Fendt and its 313 Vario tractor took out the Best Utility Tractor.

With 131hp and that trademark Fendt sheen and quality, the 313 Vario impressed the TOTY judges with its “agility and most modern technology on the market”.

While Italian brand Same and its Frutteto CVT 115 S tractor took out the Best Specialised tractor.

The judges applauded Same for its stepless transmission, high power hydraulic system, multifunctional drive lever and electronic control of most functions.

The next edition of Tractor of the Year will be held at next year’s Agritechnica in Hannover, Germany.
