Large square baler hits Aussie shores

Built with a higher intake capacity and producing heavier bales than ever before, Kuhn’s new SB 1290 baler is set for big things

 

The SB 1290 iD baler will produce “rock-hard, perfectly shaped bales” using integral rotor and power density techniques, Kuhn Australia marketing manager and baler product specialist Michael Murer says.

The SB series features a torque increase on the rotor and feeder fork driveline, as well as a high-performance crop intake system to lift intake capacity by 15 per cent, with increased endurance properties.

Able to work in crops including silage, hay, straw, lucerne, maize, straw and sugar cane leaves, the baler is designed to reduce transport costs and be more efficient, regardless of crop conditions.

 “The SB 1290 iD boosts profitability by producing heavier bales, increasing the compaction by 60 plus tonnes and provides the highest density bale by a margin of 25 per cent over conventional balers,” Murer says.

“Even in the most challenging circumstances it achieves this through the TwinPact double plunger technique that formulates higher density bales whilst using less power and avoiding massive peak loads on the main gear box.”

Where cutting is needed, the baler’s OmniCut 23 cutting system with individual hydraulic protection on the knives works to ensure quality regardless of working speed and crop type.

The baler uses its crank angle position sensor and plunger rod load pins to measure the load throughout the plunger cycle in order to achieve the maximum bale weight possible.

Kuhn says its patented torque regulation system helps ensure balance between capacity and density, resulting in higher transport and handling efficiency.

The inside of the machine is easily accessible for maintenance, while the knotter deck is equipped with solid stairs and a safety railing for added safety.

The driver can also benefit from optimal comfort thanks to the heavy flywheel, the load sensing hydraulics and the torque regulation system, Kuhn says.
