Planting seeds accurately while travelling 20km/h will be possible with the Precea range of precision air seeders, set to be released locally by German manufacturer Amazone in Spring.

Amazone will launch three models of the Precea seeder – a rigid-framed 3000 model with 75 cm row spacing; a telescopic 4500-2 model with row spacing from 45-80 cm; and the Precea 3000-A, which is mounted onto Amazone’s KX or KG rotary cultivators as a one-pass seedbed option.

The models will reach an operating speed of up to 12km/h with Amazone’s standard mechanical speed shaft drive system, but will be able to reach 20km/h using the ElectricDrive option.

Craig Hopkins, the Amazone product manager for Australian distributor Claas Harvest Centre, says ElectricDrive can be controlled via any ISOBUS terminal including Amazone’s AmaTron 4 or AmaPad 2 units.

"The seeding rate can be easily adjusted on the terminal to increase the seeding rate in marginal rows or specific areas in the field using application maps," Hopkins says.

"Individual rows can also be shut off to create tramlines or along wedge-shaped fields or tapering headlands."

Hopkins says the seeders have a pressurised seed metering unit and an optical seed monitor that registers any misses or doubles – allowing the singling process to be adjusted either by the operator of an optional automated system.

All three seeders come with a double disc unit and V-pressure rollers to close up the furrow, with placement depth and the opening angle of the rollers easily adjusted without the use of tools.

The pressure of each coulter can be adjusted to a maximum 220kg using the standard mechanical system or to a maximum of 400kg using the optional hydraulic system.

Each unit will have a 55 litre airtight seed hopper with a fill level sensor, and each can be fitted with a fertiliser bin of either 950l or 1250l, depending on the model.

Fertiliser is individually metered for each row and is actively conveyed by an air stream to the double disc fertiliser coulters, which are also individually adjustable for depth.

The units can also be equipped with Amazone’s micro-granular applicator, which enables the accurate metering of micro-nutrients, insecticides or slug pellets stored in a 17l hopper mounted behind the seed hopper and able to distribute inputs either above or below the seeds.
