Amazone has released a new flagship model for its high-performance Avant seed drill range.

With a re-designed front-mounted hopper and a greater choice of rollers, Amazone’s new Avant 02 6002-2 seed drill system offers customers a variety of new options.

The new FTender hopper features a generous 2.2m by 1.1m opening for easy filling, and is available with capacities of either 1,600 litres or 2,200l.

Claas Harvest Centre head of product for Australia Paul Birbeck says the hopper uses its electric metering unit to transfer seed or fertiliser to the seed drill’s segmented distribution head via dual pipes.

"The steep walls ensure optimal flow of seed or fertiliser, while the emptying device rapidly and completely empties any residual seed or fertiliser," Birbeck says.

"Alternatively the electric metering system can be set to ‘empty’, whereby any remaining seed or fertiliser is cleared via the metering system."

From the pipes, the seed is transferred to the Avant’s 40 parallelogram-suspended TwinTec double disc coulters, which are set on 15cm row spacing, before being drilled to a depth of between 0-6cm.

"The harrows can be set aggressively for heavy soils or in trailing mode for areas where there are straw residues," Birbeck says. "Each harrow has five height positions, enabling it to be reset as it wears."

"The ‘on-grip’ tines pull themselves down into the soil so that the cultivator maintains an even working depth even in difficult conditions."

Birbeck adds that the spring-loaded side plates on the new Avant help to retain soil in the machine while allowing rocks and other obstacles to pass through

"It produces a perfect seedbed," he says.

"With 20 rotors, it intensively crumbles soil and thoroughly incorporates organic matter," he adds.

Adjusting the height of the side plates and levelling boards is easy thanks to a universal operating tool. This levelling board is now guided by the roller so that the tines of the levelling board do not need to be adjusted as the working depth varies.

Farmers can choose from a large range of rollers available such as the wedge ring, matrix tyre, tooth packer or trapeze ring options, he adds.

Available in three and four-metre rigid configurations and with a six-metre folding rotary cultivator, the seed drill’s coulters can also be lifted up and deactivated if only cultivation is required.

It can also be fitted with an optional transport chassis that enables the unit to be safely and comfortably driven on the road without exceeding the rear axle load limit, Birbeck adds.
