With a redesigned hopper and independent planting units, the Maschio Gaspardo Gigante pressure drill is ready to handle Australian conditions

Redesigns to the Maschio Gaspardo Gigante pressure drill will make it better able to seed in challenging conditions, Australian distributor PFG says.

Designers have rotated seeder’s pressurised hopper so the bins are front to back and lowered in the chassis.

This improves stability in hilly country and makes it easier to load seed and fertiliser, while its pressurised features help improve seed distribution and reduces the fan power required.

The hopper can be split 60:40 interchangeably between seed and fertiliser, depending on which has the higher volume, with calibration made easy by push button control from either inside the cab or next to the drill.

Its eDrive metering system is also easily adjustable due to the interchangeable metering cartridges supplied for small seeds, right through to high rates of fertiliser.

Available in 4m and 6m versions, with 26 and 40 rows respectively, the trailed pneumatic seed drill plants seeds 152mm apart using its dampened independent planting unit.

The 4m version has a total capacity of 2,840L and requires a minimum of 150hp (112kW), while the 6m model can carry 3,410L and requires 180hp (134kW) to operate. Both models fold to a 3m transport width.

PFG seeding specialist Tom Wilkinson says the Gigante’s single disc system is perfect for conditions with undulating terrain.

“The Gigante excels in uneven terrain due to its class leading range of disc movement, and its precise depth control, provided by the large depth control wheel on each disc,” he says.

“With minimal disturbance it creates a fine tilth in the slot, creating a perfect germination zone and a consistent firm closure, thanks to the independently mounted press wheels.”

Attached to each sowing unit, the press wheels enable the coulter to raise and drop independently, while two independent springs add to its range of movement.

Fully ISOBUS compatible, the Gigante Pressure Drill also comes with a Genius controller with electric drives and GPS speed detection system as standard.

The seeder is available through PFG dealerships across the country.
