Silvan Australia has introduced a new model mounted spreader from Italy’s Dal Cero Metalworking, better known as DCM, to the Australian market.

The DCM S24 replaces the CA range of spreaders offered by Silvan in Australia, offering models with 900, 1,200, 1,500 or 2,000 litre capacities that are ideally suited to medium horsepower tractors.

The spreader can distribute most fertilisers 24m, and urea up to 18m, with the spreading discs, vanes, agitators, housing and opening plates all made of stainless steel.

It also has a stainless steel filter grate on all models, as well as nylon supports for the spreader shutters and between the frame and hopper.

An ISOBUS-equipped version is available with load cells, offering variable rate spreading and section control based on prescription maps entered into a monitor.

Buyers also have the option of adding a side conveyor for banded spreading and hopper covers, for all hopper sizes.

Silvan’s general manager of spraying and farm machinery Gavin Wheatcroft says while the S24 retains a lot of the features of the CA spreader units, the updates make for significant improvements.

"They also introduced a seal between the hopper and the frame which is designed to reduce vibration and wear," he says.

"Secondly they have also changed the hopper dimensions to bring the centre of gravity closer to the tractor and help with weight distribution and the third thing they introduced was a quick release pin for the spreader discs, which made a big difference in being able to calibrate the machine much more easily as well as cleaning the machine."

This is in addition to the option of a black paint job, which Wheatcroft says makes it unusual in the market.

"Farmers and spreading contractor clients are expressing high satisfaction levels with the DCM build quality and long operating life that the stainless components provide" Wheatcroft says.

"Already the stainless steel version of this model has moved very quickly in terms of sales, and we have had good autumn conditions in terms of rainfall in a lot of areas which has driven spreader sales."
