New Holland Agriculture has released a limited edition small square baler to celebrate a major milestone in its haybaling history

New Holland are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the small square baler in Australia

It’s been 75 years since New Holland first started selling the small square baler in Australia, and the company is giving a new look to its BC5070 Hayliner to celebrate.

The limited edition 2021 small square balers will sport special anniversary decals in commemoration of the milestone, New Holland Agriculture product segment manager for fodder conservation Sune Nielsen says.

"New Holland is excited to release the new Model 5070 Hayliner into the Australian market adding a new chapter to the longstanding success of these balers," Nielsen says.

"New Holland looks forward to new and exciting products coming our way in the next few years to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations."

The first New Holland baler, a Model 75, was released in Australia under the war time Labour government of 1945, but the brand was really catapulted into the forefront of the agricultural industry one year late after six Model 76 balers were sold to the public.

New Holland would sell over 60 of the Model 76 balers across the country over the following three years – a figure which would be trumped by the Model 77 which sold around 175 units in the 1950s.

But New Holland’s biggest success throughout their formative years Down Under came in the 1960s when they began manufacturing small square balers, holding a market share of around 60 per cent with 1,275 units of the S69 and 281 Models bought in 1967 alone.

Nielsen says that while the design principles of the small square balers have not changed much over the decades, the 2021 BC5070 Hayliner has new features that will appeal to large scale contractors and commercial operators.

It has an additional 300mm of length in the bale chamber as well as thicker chamber walls and a four way hydroformatic bale density systems to ensure consistency in achieved in regard to the weight and length of bales.

The BC50670 Hayliner will be available this year from any New Holland distribution centre across the country.
