Electric Volvo wheel loader Euro launch

Presented by

The European base of Volvo Construction Equipment has delved into the realm of electric power with the announcement of their first ever electric compact wheel loader.

The Volvo CE L25 is Volvo's first electric compact wheel loader and was tested in Cologne, Germany, where it helped keep the city streets safe and clean across Winter

The Volvo L25 Electric compact wheel loader is a first for the Swedish manufacturers which has launched a range of electric construction machines, including the L25, which boasts outstanding performance and zero emissions.

The L25 Electric is powered by a 48 volt lithium-ion battery capable of running for eight hours until flat and takes just two hours to charge from zero to 100 per cent using the machine’s fast-charging function.

At just 2.5m tall, the L25 Electric is compact and capable of manoeuvring around tight construction sites while Volvo also says the wheel loader can also work indoors given its zero emissions and minimal noise and vibrations.

The 1800mm-long bucket has a capacity of 0.9 cubic metres for the general-purpose bucket and 0.8 cubic metres for the four-in-one adaptation; with the wheel loader’s hydraulics able to lift up to 55kN to a lift height of 4135mm.

The L25 Electric was tested on the streets of Cologne, Germany, where it was used by AWB Abfallwirstschaftsbetriebe Cologne GmbH (AWB) – the company responsible for maintaining the streets of Cologne - to help in street cleaning and waste disposal during the winter in Germany's fourth largest city.

Volvo says the L25 offered AWB a reliable and efficient option for cleaning in tight areas without the need for a ventilation system.

AWB Cologne Head of Mobility and Sustainability, Bert Schröer, says the Volvo CE L25 was the ideal choice for the operation while also helping AWB improve its commitment towards greater environmental sustainability.

"The wheel loader is an important milestone in our journey to introduce more electric mobility at AWB Cologne and [the L25] is certainly fulfilling our expectations," Schröer says.

"We are managing well with the electric power, even in the cold. Capacity, handling and shovel size – everything fits. So far, there have been no aspects that would make us questions our decision.

"It was definitely the right choice," he says.

The Volvo CE L25 Electric compact wheel loader is not yet available in Australia, local distributor CJD Equipment says.
