XAG’s first unmanned ground vehicle offers a whole new spraying system, and is ready to make its mark on the Australian market

A company best known for drones is taking its unmanned technology from the sky to the farm.

XAG has created an unmanned ground vehicle, which is about to hit the Australian market and is being described as a "world first".

The R150 has multiple modes to suit farm jobs such as mowing, spreading, spraying, transport of materials and precision plant protection.

XAG Australia sales manager Bryce Dimec says the company has several R150 UGVs waiting in their warehouse and is only waiting on software before they can be released to the market.

The XAG R150 is operated via remote control and can use RTK GPS co-ordinates for increased accuracy.

He also says there are a number of ways the R150 can be customised.

"The R150 is a world first in terms of a ground-based unmanned spraying system, with the option of adding third-party attachments for slashing over tougher terrain or row seeding with up to 150kg of seed on board," he says.

"It could also be a utility vehicle to transport goods from A to B.

"It’s all operated on remote control, using RTK GPS co-ordinates which offer centimetre accuracy as the machine moves around.

"This is a whole new product for us and there’s nothing else available here like this at the moment."

Features of the R150 include an integrated steel frame with roll cage, adjustable ground clearance, water and dust resistance, 4WD, brushless motor and electronic parking brake system.

The R150 is 1.515m long, 1.09m wide and 96.5cm high.

Its running speed is 1.2m per second and it has a load capacity of 150kg.

When combined with XAG’s JetSprayer system, the R150 can conduct autonomous crop spraying of up to five hectares per hour, the company says.
