Vanderfield brand retired

Vanderfield’s brand name will be retired after RDO Equipment announced its branches and staff would come together under one name

The move means Vanderfield, along with construction equipment dealer Vermeer Australia, will now be known as RDO Equipment.

For Vanderfield, a Queensland-based John Deere agriculture dealer, it is the end of a brand name that had existed since 1963.

Vanderfield CEO Bruce Vandersee, who held the role for 28 years and will remain a director and shareholder of RDO Equipment, says the Offutt family, who own and founded RDO, has been an ideal business partner.

"Since they invested in Vanderfield nearly 10 years ago, the Offutt family have shared our values and have been great partners to me and my family," he says.

"They understand agriculture, take a long-term view, and are committed to investing in our business to provide the highest level of service and support for our customers."

RDO Equipment had previously taken a 100 per cent stake in Vanderfield in 2019

RDO Equipment, who is based in the United States, has its main Australian agricultural presence through John Deere.

It took a 50 per cent stake in Vanderfield in 2012, increasing that to 100 per cent in 2019 and also bought Deere dealership Chesterfield last year.

It has also been the John Deere construction and forestry dealer for all Australian states excluding Western Australia since 2019 and is the Vermeer equipment dealer.

RDO Equipment board chairman Ryan Offutt, whose father Ron founded the company, credits Vandersee for the shared long-term approach of the past decade.

"I want to recognise the legacy of the Vanderfield organisation as an important foundation stone for our future and express my family’s gratitude to the customers and employees who have given us the opportunity to invest in Australia," he says.

"The strengths and qualities of Vanderfield will be continued as we focus on the future."

RDO Equipment will now have 29 branches and more than 800 staff across Australia.
