Growers able to share data through blockchain

Livestock growers using AgriWebb will be able to share herd information direct with external groups under a new deal signed with KPMG Origins

Livestock data will be shared throughout the supply chain after enterprise management platform AgriWebb linked up with blockchain-based track-and-trace platform KPMG Origins.

It will allow customers of the Sydney-based AgriWebb to standardise their farm data through KPMG Origins’ platforms and provide secure access to external partners such as retailers, banks and industry bodies.

Farmers will also have control over which data is uploaded to the platform

Farmers have control over which data is uploaded to the platform, including processing practices, breeding property or certifications and it is hoped farmers will "receive additional value from supply chain partners" in return for sharing livestock records, data and certifications.

AgriWebb co-founder John Fargher says traceability of red meat is becoming increasingly important, with international buyers requesting more information to validate claims about meat products.

"Our integration with KPMG Origins helps empower farmers to educate consumers and the supply chain on the origins of their produce," he says.

"Traceability has never been so important and by supporting farmers with the right data and tools, they’re able to share the necessary information with partners quickly and efficiently to support decision making."

The first company to sign up to the integration is Argyle Foods Group and the company’s co-CEO Lachlan Graham says it is important Argyle can verify claims made about their produce’s quality.

"Argyle uses KPMG Origins to focus on verification programs that enable access to new markets and bring in a premium," he says.

"As a large-scale, vertically integrated operation, with thousands of overseas export partners, it’s vital that we can back up the claims we make."
