John Deere sprayer customers are set for a huge boost, with night time spraying now possible thanks to LED lighting on the manufacturer’s See & Spray Select technology
Deere’s decision to add LED lighting to its MY23 400 and 600 Series Sprayers means customers can now extend their targeted spraying window beyond the harsh heat of the day.
See & Spray Select is the manufacturer’s targeted spraying technology, which has integrated cameras to detect green plants in fallow ground and therefore spray only these areas.
Since its launch in March 2021, Deere says the technology has resulted in farmers using an average of 77 per cent less herbicide while delivering similar hit rates to traditional spraying.
The manufacturer’s Australian and New Zealand production systems manager Ben Kelly says the changes were prompted by a desire to meet farmers’ needs and extend their spraying window into the night.
“We understand the summer fallow spraying window is limited by the heat during the day in Australia’s harsh conditions, so it was essential we offered night time spot spraying for our farmers to complete spraying as efficiently, safely and sustainably as possible,” he says.
“Local farmers have reported up to 90 per cent chemical savings by using See & Spray Select, so providing the technology for farmers to be able to achieve targeted spraying during the night hours will bring enormous benefits to their bottom line, while helping them to tackle critical issues like herbicide resistance.”
Deere’s 400 and 600 Series sprayers allow farmers to switch between targeted spraying and wider broadcast spraying without leaving the cabin, and both modes can also be used at the same time.
The See & Spray Select technology will also now be available on all boom sizes.
The MY23 400 and 600 Series Sprayers, which are both fitted with Deere’s JDLink data management technology, are available to order now for delivery in early 2023.
