Tested: John Deere's revolutionary 990 variable chamber round baler from its new 900 series.

A revolutionary new design concept developed by John Deere is generating enormous interest in the iconic company’s recently released 900 series variable chamber round balers.

John Deere 990 and 960 balers eject completed bales at a much faster rate. Benefits include increased efficiency and greater production output as well as reducing the physical stress on the baler itself.

John Deere 900 series balers reduce completed bale ejection time from 15 seconds to 5 seconds by replacing the conventional large rear door with a quick lift rear belt roller assembly. Put simply for every 6 bales produced one minute of idle time is eliminated.

Additional improvements include bale chamber sides that move outward to guarantee a no stick bale release, light weight rear ejection system minimises physical stress on baler and a high capacity pick up with drop floor unplugging system reduces annoying blockages.

Three powered rollers, dual belts and soft core function ensure perfect bales are produced every time in any crop situation.

Plenty of storage, minimal maintenance and a computer system capable of communicating with the tractor combine to provide a stress free working environment for the operator.

NewFarmMachinery independent product reviewer, Tom Dickson, recently spent a day producing silage rolls using a John Deere 990 baler. He also gained valuable information on the baler’s performance from Simon Craven, who operates it as part of his family’s dairy farming enterprise.

A field test and more detailed review on a 990 baler working in western Victoria will appear in the December issue of NewFarmMachinery Magazine, on-sale December 23. Subscribe to the magazine to receive them at your doorstep.
