Video Review: David Brown 990 Selectamatic Tractor

Technical Editor Tom Dickson takes a trip down memory lane and reviews a piece of machinery from his past, the David Brown 990 Selectamatic Tractor.

Most of the time, Technical Editor Tom Dickson reviews the latest and greatest that the farming world has to offer.

Sometimes however, he reviews a blast from the past to see just how far technology and machinery have come.

In this instance, Dickson gives his thoughts on a tractor with sentimental importance, his family’s 1970’s era David Brown 990 Selectamitic tractor.

"While I wouldn’t want to give up the luxuries that the modern-day tractors offer, I would recommend a David Brown 990 as a great tractor for restoration purposes," says Dickson.

"Ours proved that the motor, gearbox, hydraulics, PTO and linkage remained basically sound even after pretty ordinary treatment and zero maintenance, meaning a restoration may only entail some rust removal, a spray paint, a visit to an auto electrician, and a new bearing or two".
