Flemington Racecourse will be in good condition come Melbourne Cup Day thanks in part to a new specialised trailed turf sprayer from Silvan Australia.
Silvan spraying and machinery product specialist Raph Hymus says the turf sprayer has been specifically built to suit the needs of Flemington and will be used for weed control, spraying the track with insecticides and chemical treatments.
The sprayer is based around a 2,000-litre-capacity Polytuff tank that is designed for a long life under outdoor exposure. It is fitted with twin 7.5m hydraulically controlled spray booms, and can reach 15m when fully extended.
Hymus says that the sprayer takes advantage of the towing tractor‘s power take off to drive its Comet BP 125 diaphragm pump, which can pump out 120 litres per minute at 20 bar.
Other features include a Silvan Bravo controller that effectively regulates the spray pressure, directing the flow of the spray liquid from the pump to the nozzles located on the boom and bypassing any excess spray liquid back to the tank.
The complete unit is carried on a highly durable hot-dipped galvanized steel chassis, Silvan says.
